Welcome! You are going to learn how to study for the TEAS and set yourself up for success! Yay!
Studying for the TEAS can be super scary, time-consuming, overwhelming, so I’m here to help you navigate the choppy TEAS seas.
You’re going to get the inside scoop on tips and strategies that I’ve developed from teaching and hundreds of pre-nursing students like you.
With this guide, you will have the foundation of my study philosophy.
Before we dive, let me introduce myself quickly. Hello! I’m Kate. 🙂
I’m a former college tutor and instructor turned online TEAS prep expert. I’ve been helping students get into nursing school since 2015. My online TEAS prep program helps the average student increase their TEAS assessment scores by 15 points.
In my city, nursing school is SO COMPETITIVE. Many 4-year nursing programs require a TEAS score of 80 percent to even be considered for admission. Talk about intense!
I started working with students who had already used the great TEAS products on the market. After all, most people don’t work with an expert before trying materials like study guides, apps, and practice tests.
But top-notch students weren’t getting the scores they wanted, so it was my job to help them succeed. Because so many students were getting great results, I wanted to share my systems.
Program developed by college tutor
Now, students from anywhere can learn how to succeed on the TEAS. I’ve developed an online program that works for busy students. You can increase your TEAS score and study with confidence.
Today, I’m proud to say that many of my students are in nursing school.
Now that you know a little bit about me, you know that this guide is based on years of experience.
So can I ask you a favor? Can you promise to actually use it?
Throughout this guide, you’ll find questions to help you customize your plan. (I wouldn’t be a teacher if I didn’t give you assignments!)
But don’t worry—these questions shouldn’t take more than a few minutes. Your answers will help you as you move forward. Let’s jump into your first set of questions now!
Questions to help you get started:
- Why is now the right time for you to focus on your TEAS prep?
- How would earning the TEAS score you want improve your life?
- If you got a great TEAS score, would you feel confident in nursing school?

Lesson 1: Create Your Foundation
In this first lesson, we’re going to lay the foundation of what it actually takes to score well on the TEAS.
Teaching pre-nursing students like you is a huge honor. You all are sharp. You work hard and you’ve survived tough weed-out classes, and you have big goals for your nursing career.
First, I need to be 100% honest: most students are a little shocked at what studying entails. Before we get started, take a deep breath. The truth is, the TEAS covers A LOT of material.
To help you see this, here’s a look at the program’s Integumentary System section…
As you can see, this section’s lessons are organized with a workbook for taking notes, in-depth lessons, an outline for review, an audio lesson, and a subject-specific quiz.
In the program, students have a mix of lectures, flashcards, practice questions, and tests. And for some quizzes, you can watch the answer explanation as a video. This is super helpful for seeing how to solve TEAS math questions in action.
I’m telling you this so that you can have a realistic understanding of what it takes to score well.
I recommend my students study at least 75 hours for the TEAS. To help you develop your own plan, I want to share the TEAS Study Syllabus with you.
Here is a sample schedule for studying 7 hours a week for almost 3 months:
TEAS Study Plan: Studying 7 Hours a Week

When you look at the TEAS Study Syllabus, I want you to notice important points to apply to your own schedule…
- Only 2 practice tests are scheduled. Practice tests are great, and you are welcome to take as many of them as you like. However, relying on them for studying causes problems that we’ll talk about later.
- Units are chunked by subject in order to commit to studying.
- The syllabus features a TON of LEARNING vs. simple reviewing. Most students are surprised by how much they actually had to learn, and we’ll talk more about this soon.
- One full week is dedicated to focused review—you need to make the time to get the score you want.
Now, your head might be spinning a little at the thought of all this, but the results really are awesome.
Students can see huge score improvements. In fact, let me share some stats from my TEAS prep program. The average entry score is 59%. The average student increases their score in my online program by 15 points.
Prenursing Smarter Score Data
|Entry Score||Exit Score||Point Increase||% Change|

You can learn more about this here. One amazing score increase is with Anatomy and Physiology questions. The average student increases their score by 28 points on Anatomy and Physiology questions! We’ll talk soon about how you can start creating those results for yourself.
Questions to help you develop your study plan:
- Where can you schedule at least 50 hours (or more!) to study? Yes, it’s a lot, but you gotta start somewhere! Pick some days.
- Where can you schedule blocks of time for in-depth studying?
- Where can you schedule smaller blocks of time for review?
- What do you need in your life so that you commit to this plan?
Take a moment now to jot down your answers. In part two of this series, we’re going to talk about the 4 steps you need to follow for a solid plan.
